Real Estate Review

Real Estate packed the Brighton Music Hall on Sunday, touring in support of their sophomore effortDays with The Babies and Cuffs enlisted as supporting acts. Despite the 11-degree weather, the show was sold out.

The New Jersey-based Real Estate has been gaining a lot of blogospheric momentum recently behind their jangly and smooth-rolling album, along with accompanying music video about obsessive fans for the single “Easy.”

Real Estate’s set was comprised evenly of tracks off Days and their self-titled debut album. While the layered sonic landscapes come out gorgeously on CD, their live show came off as monotonous. The songs seemed to melt into each other without respite. The music is pretty, but it doesn’t quite have the backbone to make too exhilarating of a live show. Unfortunately, the sound mix was a little off and the bass was too plucky, loud and distracting. Also distracting was how similar lead singer Martin Courtney resembles Napoleon Dynamite’s brother Kip; I half expected Lafawnduh to come up and kiss him after the show.

The highlight of the show came in the form of the standout track, “It’s Real,” from Days. The three part harmonies of the chorus floated perfectly over the Brighton Music Hall air. Another entrancing one was “Younger Than Yesterday” from the same album.

While their live set was disappointing, 2012 is going to be a big year for Real Estate. The crowded and dimly lit venue was filled with people bobbing and singing out the lyrics to every song. And with the rave reviews, anything is possible.

There is apparently a lot of diddlin' going on in college sports (and side note, what the fuck is going on? Why is the diddling scene blowing up so hard? If you're a college coach you have eyes on you. Quit diddling kids. Why are there so many diddlers out there? cut it out, it's so fucked.).

Michael Vick is a running quarterback coming back from a dog fighting ring and he doesn't get the big to do Tebow does. Should we not celebrate this guy? An honest guy, who really loves god and is pretty ok at football. Perry used loving God in conjunction with homophobia; bad. Tebow loves God and football; good.

A succesful football player who isn't raping, shooting, and diddling. An....actually positive roll model for kids? Yes he is, and so what if he loves God? Most football players mention God in some capacity. But they also grope chicks (Big Ben), Leave the mother of their child (Brady), shoot themselves in the leg with an illegal gun ( Plaxico) and so on and so fourth.

That is a start to enacting the change you want to see.

No one gets anywhere by sitting, playing repeat after me, and taking quorums with jazz hands. Your signs are nice, but what are they doing? Does smelling bad in a tent really get that banker? Michele Bachmann was one of the friendliest candidates, even taking time to sign autographs. I like that she told her handlers to hold on a minute so she could speak with fans.

Herman Cain was also extremely nice and friendly.

Great Question! So I was shooting in a group of other media who were all generally polite. There was some elbowing because the candidates were fast on the move to get in to the debate, and there were secret service and other security pushing you and stuff, but otherwise they were polite. BUT there was one news team from France, and they were not polite. The camera man pushed and shoved, and used his video camera like a club. Thanks a lot France.

Behind Michele is 'failed mall cop'. He was not a cop, nor was he security for Dartmouth college. He took his job too seriously, and was a jerk.

BRUNE, Julia Anne (Larkin) Of Westwood passed away at home, surrounded by her family on October 17th, 2011. She died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 53. Julia is the beloved wife of David. Loving mother of Caryn, Sean and Nikki and devoted daughter of Anthony E. Larkin and the late Mary J. (Edmondstone) Larkin. She is also survived by her older brothers, Tim, Keith and John Larkin, and by many other loving family members and friends. Julia was a vibrant and charismatic member of the community working as the Director of Membership Beach, Hale Reservation and as the head coach for the Westwood Recreation Swim Team.

Cause when there's nothing to do during a sleepy Boston Summer, why not ride mopeds? Ryan (2nd to last picture) maintains a small fleet of mopeds with various problems. He fixes the problems one by one. The moped pictured was kinda hard core because at the time it didn't idle. So if you stopped, the engine stopped. Which means you just had to keep going, no stopping. I mean you could stop, but that meant you'd have to pedal it to start again and look like a nerd. And everyone knows there aren't nerds in Allston. All the nerds live in Cambridge. Fact.

I feel really bad for the cops that drew the short straws and had to do the Allston beat last night after the Bruins won. The Boston Police obviously sent the JV squad- it was a bunch of lady cops and pudgy old guys. Probably the least intimidating police force ever assembled. They had wooden batons, not even given full riot gear. There was that one cop on top of Blanchard's in photo 13 just taking a cell phone video of the whole thing- amateur hour. What the hell are you going to do on top of a roof with a baton? Throw it if the crowd gets too crazy?

I guess nothing serious happened, the most they had to do was explain "Ma'am please put your tit away."

Robert James Kinsella, known in Dedham as “Bob the Barber”, died Wednesday, May 4th, 2011 at the Norwood Hospital. He was 82. Kinsella was a lifelong Dedham resident having been born in the house that he has lived in all his life. He graduated from Dedham High School with the classof 1948 and served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953. Kinsella retired in 2009 after over 40 years as the owner and operator of Bob’s Barbershop on Bussey Street in East Dedham. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and was a member of the American Legion in Dedham. (excerpted from fulsom funeral services)
